Jamaica's government has revealed that there is a growing interest in obtaining the island's new casino licences.

Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett said that three licences could be granted over the next few years for the operation of casinos in major resort areas.
However, gambling would be just one element of the country’s tourism offering.

"Jamaica will soon become a destination that offers the casino gambling experience, rather than a casino destination," he told local media.
Gambling regulations are currently being finalised and the new gaming commission is beginning its work. Applications for licences, Bartlett said, are now being accepted.
