The DLR railway station at Custom House, London, where passengers alight for the ExCeL trade show location of ICE Totally Gaming, will be closed for 12 months at the time of the event.
It is being closed as part of a major redevelopment of London’s railway systems. The organiser of ICE, Clarion Events, has informed us that visitors to the show will be able to use the next stop down the line, Royal Victoria, which is 650m from ExCeL. A fleet of buses and coaches will be laid on throughout the three days of the show.
Kate Chambers, who is managing director of Clarion’s Gaming Division and the person responsible for overseeing the successful relocation of ICE from its previous home at Earls Court, said: “We have apportioned a separate and ring-fenced budget to provide free transportation and appoint a team, led by ICE event director Greg Saint, which will be responsible for organising the logistics and for communicating the changes to our loyal community of visitors throughout the world. "In 2012/13, we handled the move from west London to ExCeL and we will be using the same skill set and attention to detail to ensure the smooth and trouble-free movement of visitors from Royal Victoria to ExCeL." One benefit of the long closure of the station for the upgrading is that, once completed, visitors flying into Heathrow will be able to use the new Elizabeth Line to get to the show venue from the airport in less than 45 minutes.
