Hurricane Irene saw Atlantic City's 11 casinos close down over the weekend.

None of the venues suffered major damage and most of them were due to reopen today after undergoing a series of safety checks. The closures meant that the casinos lost millions of dollars in potential earnings. While all 11 of the casinos closed their gaming halls, some of the facilities kept their hotels open.

The closure off all the city’s casinos was only the third of its kind in the entire existence of the gaming industry in New Jersey. Much of the East Coast of the US has felt the effects of Hurricane Irene since Thursday, with the storm clearing on Sunday morning.
