Plans to bring more casinos to the US state of Illinois have suffered a setback.

Illinois Senate Bill 1859, which would have brought casinos to Chicago, Danville, Lake County, Rockford and southern Cook County, and would have allowed slot machines at the state's horse racing tracks, missed a deadline to act on the measure. The lead sponsor of the bill, Senator Terry Link, plans to work on a compromise bill.

Governor Pat Quinn vetoed an expanded gambling bill in August. Quinn said he wanted tougher regulations. Among his suggestions was a ban on campaign contributions by casino bosses and more state control over the casino in Chicago.
