A new deadline of 2012 has been set for phase one of Gran Scala, the huge leisure and gaming complex planned for Spain by ILD, an international consortium of investors.

The original deadline for the project, which was announced in December 2007, was 2010. ILD insists that the project will be economically beneficial for the region of Aragon.

Construction is due to start next autumn on the project, the first phase of which will occupy around 1,000 hectares and employ around 26,000 people.

It will include 10 casino hotels, three big theme parks, four medium-sized parks, 200 restaurants and bars, 250 stores and auxiliary services. There will be a total of 25,000 hotel rooms.

The other 1,300 hectares of the project will be built within the following 10 years. This will bring the facility totals to 32 casinos, six big theme parks, 12 medium-sized parks and 400 restaurants and bars.
