The Cordish Company is on track to unveil Maryland Live! Casino, its new 300,000sq.ft gaming facility located in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, next month. “The project is flying right along,” president and general manager Rob Norton tells Simon Liddle

Maryland Live! Casino is set to be among the largest gaming entertainment complexes anywhere in the US when it opens its doors to the public in June. Located at the 1.3 million sq.ft Arundel Mills Mall, presently the state’s single largest tourist attraction, the property will boast gaming, retail and entertainment amenities that will raise the bar for gaming within the state, if not for the rest of the country.

“We will be one of the largest gaming entertainment venues in the US ourselves, so if you add us together with Arundel Mills we become arguably the largest single casino entertainment destination in the country,” Rob Norton, the casino’s president and general manager, told InterGaming.

With the addition of “world-class” restaurants and eateries, such as the nationally-acclaimed Prime Rib, Phillips Seafood and the Cheesecake Factory, along with a new, uniquely-designed Rams Head live entertainment venue, Maryland Live! hopes to offer an entertainment experience that goes beyond just gaming.

“Our brand is ‘Live!’ and I don’t think you can pull off live without being live,” continued Norton. “What that means to me is that we need to be a destination that people come to and feel energised and excited and really feel the energy of the space. Live entertainment is part of our plans seven nights a week. Everything we do is around our brand of being live.”

With only a month to go until the venue opens to the public, preparations are reaching a critical stage. The casino’s management is hard at work in bringing in staff and placing machines on the gaming floor.

“We’re on track for our June opening,” said Norton. “We’ve got more than half of the machines in place and, as far as staffing goes, we have more than half of the staff identified and hired already.” With so much already in place, the process of getting everything ready for the launch is progressing well, he adds.
