The Home Department of the Indian state of Goa is reportedly intending to bring into force 2012 amendments to the Goa Public Gambling Act that seek to prevent Goan locals and those aged under 21 from entering casinos, local media reports.

The legislation was amended in 2012 but the government had not to date formulated the rules to implement the act.

Government spokesman Sanjiv Gadkar told the Herald Goa: “The rules will be required to be placed before the cabinet as there is need to appoint a Gaming Commissioner,” adding that the measures could be in place for the start of the new financial year.

According to a local official quoted in the Herald Goa, the new rules will require every person entering a casino to display an ID card.
