The G2E trade show, the North American casino industry’s premier annual event, opened its doors today at The Sands Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada, for a three-day run.

The show, which features over 200 casino suppliers, showcases products designed for a $240bn industry, according to the organiser, the American Gaming Association, and its manager Reed Exhibitions.

Although smaller in terms of floor area than London’s ICE Totally Gaming, a large number of international visitors attend the exhibition, thought in some circles to attain 40 per cent of the visitor count. The AGA and Reed are canny about numbers and do not give out show attendance statistics, probably avoiding the nonsense that so many other exhibitions become involved in, elevating their numbers beyond belief as a matter of course each year.

Supplemented by a strong line-up of conferences, G2E this year is expected to have an overall theme of entertainment, injecting more features into the basic pure gambling product. There will be an internet gambling app to every stand, of course, as the land-based industry prepares itself for the end of “prohibition” in the US and i-gaming is officially permitted.

Ostensibly, however, the online industry will be beneath the surface of the wall-to-wall slots, tables and systems that will dominate the show.

Further reporting from the strong InterGaming team in Las Vegas will follow this week.
