Despite the mass shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Sunday night, the huge G2E Global Gaming Expo opens at the Sands Convention Center in the city today.

G2E Las Vegas to open on schedule

The sponsoring American Gaming Association and its show managers at Reed Exhibitions went on record yesterday as condemning the tragedy and sympathising with victims before reassuring the gathering industry in Las Vegas that the event would go ahead.

Geoff Freeman, president of the AGA, said: “G2E annually welcomes 26,000 visitors. We are in constant contact with local and national law enforcement and our host, Las Vegas Sands. We will closely monitor the situation and safety remains our priority.

“The gaming industry is a tight-knit community and Las Vegas is the beating heart of our operations. The AGA and Reed Exhibitions will offer our full assistance as the city recovers and we will strive to honour the victims of this tragic event.”

Shares in Mandalay Bay Resort, from where the gunman fired upon the crown, fell in Stock Exchange dealings by 5.58 per cent, according to Fantini’s Gaming Report. Elsewhere in Las Vegas, the MGM cancelled all of its shows on Monday night and police presence at all Vegas casinos – and in Atlantic City – was stepped up after the shootings.
