The American Gaming Association has confirmed that it is considering creating a new European gaming show with Reed, its partner in both G2E Las Vegas and G2E Asia.
Rumours have been circulating the industry that a show was being planned to either rival or replace London ICE operated by Clarion Events. However, in recent weeks a number of major manufacturers have reiterated their support for the ICE event.
A question mark remains over the long-term future of the show due to plans to redevelop the Earls Court site after the 2012 Olympic Games.
In September, InterGaming learned that Reed Germany and Swan Events had submitted a joint bid for a G2E Europe event to a European exhibitors’ group thought to include Atronic, Novomatic, Abbiati, Amatic, Apex, Aristocrat, Astro, Bally, Casino Technologies, Unidesa, Gold Club, IGT, R Franco, TCS John Huxley and WMS.
Ahead of G2E Las Vegas next month, InterGaming spoke to Frank Fahrenkopf, president and chief executive officer of the AGA, who acknowledged that the organisation is in favour of establishing a new show in Europe.
“The AGA and Reed have made no secret about the fact that we are interested in launching a G2E show in Europe,” he said. “We believe we can offer a highly successful and truly world-class event that will cater to and bolster the European gaming market and we continue to work with our partners to determine the feasibility of this endeavour.”
