The abolition of smoking in enclosed public places in France, which begins on January 1, 2008, is expected to cut income at the country's casinos by as much as 20 per cent initially, according to reports coming from French operators.
Cigarette smokers are thought to represent a high percentage of the players of slots, which provide 92 per cent of casino income in France. The industry is anticipating that it will take between three and five years for the market to recover after the ban is introduced.
