Four entities have applied to host the joint venture casino planned by the Mashantucket and Mohegan tribes in north central Connecticut in the US.

Communities applying are Hartford, East Hartford, East Windsor and Windsor Locks, according to local news reports. Bradley International Airport also intends to apply.

The tribes will select a host community by December 15. Then the Connecticut legislature must pass a bill authorising non-reservation casinos in the state.

The matter could, however, be decided in the courts as MGM Resorts has sued, saying that the initial bill that allows an Indian-only casino is discriminatory.

The fight is for north central Connecticut gamblers who now patronise Mashantucket’s Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos but would now be lured by MGM’s $800m project planned for Springfield, Massachusetts.
