Investigations related to Kazuo Okada’s Universal Entertainment may be coming to an end.
According to Universal, the Prosecutor General of the Philippines has recommended that investigations related to Universal Entertainment’s alleged bribery in order to receive a casino licence be terminated, GGR Asia reported.
At issue is a $25m payment made to casino consultant Rodolfo Soriano. Universal has acknowledged the payment should never have been made and claims three former employees did so without permission. The company also said it will continue to investigate $30m paid out by the former employees.
One of the former employees has filed a complaint with the Tokyo Public Prosecutor’s office alleging Okada himself ordered the payments of bribes related to securing the licence, which Universal is using to build its $2bn Tiger resort in Manila’s Entertainment City.
