CrownBet has joined in the dispute between Tabcorp Holdings and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission over Tabcorp’s proposed takeover of the Tatts Group.

The sports betting wrangle between Tabcorp and the ACCC is because the Australian Competition Tribunal gave the go-ahead to the Tabcorp-Tatts deal, but the ACCC feels that this is actually anti-competitive and reduces choice for the players.

The issue is now going before a federal court and Tabcorp has indicated that it will fiercely resist the ACCC’s move.

Now CrownBet has weighed into the argument. CrownBet is the sports betting arm of Crown Resorts, which has many connections in the Australian and south-east Asian gaming markets, including some high-profile casinos. CrownBet is also lodging an appeal against the merger - again with Tabcorp vowing to contest it vigorously.
