Colombia’s health ministry received 1.5 per cent more receipts from the land-based gaming industry between January and November compared to the same period last year.

Coljuegos, the country’s gambling regulator, said the health sector, which receives proceeds from the gaming industry, pulled in COP348.7bn (£) in the first 11 months of the year.

The regulator said the 1.5 per cent jump on last year was due to the increase in the number of slot machines, bingo tables and casinos it authorised this year.

“The growth of localised games demonstrates the importance of this segment for the economy and the health of Colombians,” said Marco Emilio Hincapié, president of Coljuegos.

“The resources generated not only benefit the health system but also reflect the consolidation of a regulated and reliable sector.

“We will continue working to ensure that these resources reach their destination in a transparent manner.”

Land-based gaming revenue accounts for 36 per cent of the total across all verticals, Coljuegos added.

The regulator said it has authorised more than 3,546 localised gaming establishments so far this year.
