North Carolina’s Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians is to open a second casino later this month as it targets visitors from neighbouring states.

The $110m casino complex in Murphy will be smaller than the tribe’s existing Harrah’s Cherokee facility on the Qualla Boundary and will feature 70 table games and 1,000 slots.
There have been suggestions that the state’s second casino will simply take customers away from the existing property, but it is hoped the new property will bring in day visitors from South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia.
Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River Casino is due to open on September 28.
