Greater harmony across Spain's regulatory framework would be of benefit to gaming operators, it has been claimed.
Each autonomous Spanish region has developed its own regulations, covering anything from the games that are permitted to specific tax regimes.
Santiago Asensi, of law firm Asensi Abogados, said that under this system operators wanting to offer their products on a national scale must face 17 different legal regimes - the majority of which have major differences in taxation.
"Undoubtedly, this is not the best scenario and it would be positive if the authorities of the different regions look for a more harmonised policy," he told InterGaming. "This, unfortunately, does not seem to be in their plans."
