In Brazil the Special Committee of National Development has approved an amended version of a bill that would legalise gambling.

In December 2015, the special committee from the so-called Brazil Agenda approved the text. However, after a political hurdle, the Senate was forced to revise the bill again.

The bill was supposed to be discussed by the Senate on March 2, but due to a delay in the review process the date was rescheduled. Its promoters had presented 16 amendments to the bill, of which five were incorporated in the final text.

One of the main points of the amended bill focuses on the suitability requirements of those legal entities looking to carry out business activities in the country. Another is aimed at preventing public officials and their relatives from obtaining gambling licences.
