Record-breaking cold and snow has closed some casinos in the Midwest of the US.

Big freeze

Caesars Horseshoe Cleveland and Penn National’s Hollywood Toledo are closed until further notice. Caesars Horseshoe Cincinnati and MTR Gaming’s Scioto Downs remain open. Caesars’ Thistledown racino was staying open with limited staff.

Wind chills in northern Ohio fell to 30 degrees below zero (Fahrenheit) last night with one to three inches of snow. Penn’s Hollywood Joliet in Illinois closed on Sunday and was expected to reopen this morning.

In north-west Indiana, Caesars Horseshoe Casino Hammond closed, though Pinnacle’s Ameristar East Chicago and Boyd’s Blue Chip remained open. Drier weather is expected today and warmer weather should start returning on Wednesday.
