Free bets should not be permitted from gambling companies as an incentive, says a former UK government minister.

Lord Forsyth of Drumlean, who was responsible for gambling matters when he was a Home Office minister, said that a reform of the regulations should be made to prevent gambling operators from being allowed to stimulate demand with fre bet promotions and other incentives.

He said: “Is it any wonder that with people in lockdown and many of them subject to financial strictures that we have a problem with gambling that is increasing?”
