The Star Entertainment Group is in talks to sign a deal with state-owned giant China Travel Service ahead of a potential stealth attack by Crown Resorts on its Queensland casino monopoly.

The Star, which runs Jupiters casino on the Gold Coast, faces a fresh fight from Crown with the James Packer-led gaming giant in talks to partner the China-led ASF consortium in a new Gold Coast gambling resort.

Sources confirmed the ASF Consortium - led by the ASX-listed ASF Group, China State Construction Engineering Corporation and CCCC Guangzhou Dredging Corporation - held talks with potential partners to run the casino component including Crown over the last few months.
