Allwyn has appointed a new non-executive director to its board in Adrian Joseph, who currently serves in the same role at Direct Line Group.

Most recently, he was chief data and AI officer at BT, where he led a 1,600-strong team.

Joseph joins the Allwyn board as the company ramps up its growth aims for the UK National Lottery, which it now operates having taken over the licence from Camelot in February this year.

Allwyn UK chair Justin King said Joseph’s “distinctive skillset and experience” will help fulfil the company’s “ambition to provide a player experience and games portfolio that is fit for the digital era, while at the same time creating a truly accessible, inclusive National Lottery.”

Joseph said: “With an average of £30 million raised each week for people and projects across the UK, The National Lottery is truly a force for good.

“I look forward to working with Justin and the Board to bring this to life, while continually raising the bar on innovation, equality and diversity.”

Prior to working for BT, Joseph spent over 10 years in senior data, analytics and AI roles for Google and EY.

He currently serves on the Technology Advisory Board of NatWest Group and was awarded an OBE in the 2019 New Year’s Honours List for services to equality and diversity in business.

At the end of April, Allwyn launched the Best Gift Ever campaign to encourage people to consider going into stores to buy a physical National Lottery draw ticket or Scratchcard as a present.

At the start of the month, it moved on to a new phase of its National Lottery permanent point of sale strategy, which has been hitting a number of select retailers.
