Armenia has passed a new law allowing for casinos to be built in the city of Meghri on the border with Iran.

The law allows for casinos to be placed in areas that are 300m away from schools, historical buildings, hospitals and government agency buildings.

This follows the 2012 legalisation of casinos in four districts of the country - Tsaghkadzor, Jermuk, Sevan and Meghri - which actually went into effect on January 1, 2014, following strong opposition from current casino operators that had their businesses located outside of the four districts allocated.
