Monthly figures released by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement show that total casino win for August was $246.4m, down 16.3 per cent compared with August 2014 ($294.5m).

At the end of August, cumulative casino win for the year to date stood at $1.64bn, down 11.5 per cent ($213m) compared with the same period in 2014.

Five of Atlantic City’s eight casinos recorded year-on-year falls for August, with win at Caesars falling an eye-watering 28.6 per cent from $43.9m in 2014 to $31.4m.

Golden Nugget saw a more than 20 per cent increase year on year to $20.2m while the other climbers include market leader Borgata (pictured), up 7.9 per cent to $71.1m in August, and Resorts, up 18 per cent.

A 24.2 per cent year on year drop for Trump Taj Mahal in August contributed to a year-to-date loss of 19 per cent for the property.
