The Microgaming Health and Care trust has purchased a VeinViewer for the paediatric ward at Noble’s Hospital on the Isle of Man.

Dr. John Wardle, trustee of the Microgaming Health Care and Trust, said: “The Microgaming Health and Care Trust was established to provide funding assistance to various health and social care projects on the island where the outcome benefits the wider community. This project is a perfect example of this and so it is our pleasure to provide this VeinViewer to Noble’s Hospital.”

A VeinViewer uses infrared to illuminate patients’ veins on the skin surface. This makes taking blood samples and the insertion of intravenous lines easier, by helping to avoid multiple attempts at vein puncture. The reduction in pain and distress during the procedures means it is of particular benefit when treating younger patients.

“It’s amazing to see how the VeinViewer is already benefiting our patients," added Shelagh Leonard, acting director of nursing, midwifery and therapies at Noble’s Hospital.

"On behalf of all the staff at the children’s ward, I would like to thank the Microgaming Health and Care Trust for its generous donation,”
