    Bulb Edutainment: FECs, retail and mixed-use venues are expanding into the fast-developing world of edutainment products, often creating kid’s corners that incorporate a mix of sensation-based play modules as well as fully interactive play stations with touchscreen games. They often dovetail naturally with children’s hairdressing salons, party rooms, live entertainment and there is a growth in children’s ‘play villages’ where they experience an adult environment at their own level.

    Foot prints Soft play: Soft play has expanded into almost every sector of the wider entertainment business. Family-style pubs are now installing soft play modules to keep children occupied and amused; multiplex cinemas are adding soft play to their lobby facilities; tenpin bowling centres are running soft play alongside their amusement machines and table sports games; malls are adding soft play pavilions to their offer.

    Trees Outdoor play: The outdoor play sector has experienced massive growth as health and fitness remain high on any parent’s agenda. Outdoor playgrounds, obstacle courses, ‘tree gyms’, mini-golf, as well as mini bumper and go-kart courses continue to hold appeal for those looking to combine entertainment with fresh air.

    Wheel Indoor rides: From the US to the Middle East, larger indoor attractions and carousels are being built into the indoor entertainment and retail experience. Smaller, coin-operated kiddie rides also remain an important revenue stream for malls, cinemas and other entertainment spaces.

    Figure Interactive sports and simulation: FECs and shopping mall complexes are constantly looking to maintain the competitive edge with new attractions. Interactive, game-based climbing walls, indoor obstacle courses, wind tunnels, sky diving, trampolines, real snow sports, ice or roller skating rinks and laser mazes are just some of the ways operators are looking to stay ahead by providing attractions for all ages.
