For many years we have heard the same complaints from top i-gaming operators about their incumbent software providers time and time again.

Steven Valentine

The complaints typically sit within four areas:

- Slow time to market for new products

- Level of influence they have over core product direction

- Not receiving the attention they feel they deserve

- Expensive development cost

Today concerns have gone even further and operators have real worries over the security of their player database. Once it has got to this stage it is time to consider other options.

However in most cases top operators continue with the same providers no matter how unhappy they are, hoping one day things will change.

Albert Einstein’s definition of insanity is repeating something over and over and expecting a different result. The question to ask is, are they insane?

The absence of other credible suppliers in the marketplace explains this perceived insanity and rightly so; changing the infrastructure that runs your entire business could have a devastating commercial impact if the wrong partner is chosen.

However in the last five years this situation has now changed dramatically and what at first were new players in the market have now become established software providers and offer a serious alternative for major operators.

They are a lot more agile and not restrained by legacy software but still offer the size and scale that major operators will always require.

They can offer much more bespoke software that is tailored for the individual operator’s needs; all operators run their businesses differently so shouldn’t be expected to have to fit with a rigid model.

Another major benefit is they are also not arrogant enough to understand that the operator ultimately has to be the one in control.

Due to the size and scale of some operators they will always be reluctant to change, however with the opening of new markets, certainly in the US, comes new opportunity and large operators have the chance to work with other companies. It gives them the chance to try something new without the fear of it affecting what they already have.

Operators are now able to tailor their software to their exact business needs without all the issues of trying to do it themselves. Staying with the one-size-fits-all model and having the same capabilities as everything one else in the market place whilst ignoring the other very credible options, that is insanity!
