Realistic Roulette, a revolutionary 3D table game, has arrived to disrupt the sector.

In the video above, interviews with co-founder Andy Cattrell, commercial manager Lauren Bradley and product owner Christian Riley talk in-depth about the product and how it can have a major impact for operators.

INTERGAMINGi also spoke to Realistic Games’ commercial director Rob Lee to gain further insight into the impressive project.

How do you see the current online table games sector and how does it compare with online slots?

"Not everyone will agree, but I think table games have really suffered through a lack of innovation in recent years. They are now almost a forgotten product on some sites. That may be because suppliers have concentrated on driving their creative talents towards slots, which by their very nature, constantly need to be reiterated or because operators have mistakenly decided that a standard offering of table games content is sufficient. I believe that it’s time the situation is re-evaluated. Whilst there has been an improved level of innovation in slots in recent years, the same cannot be said for table games. Given how much table games - such as Blackjack and Roulette - are enjoyed by players, and how much revenue is generated for operators, I think this area of innovation needs to be re-visited."

What about Live Dealer – hasn’t that taken the focus away from RNG versions of table games?

Live Dealer has become very popular in recent years and is now an essential part of the product mix for any online casino operator but thinking that providing a Live Dealer offering is adequate compensation for inferior RNG versions of these games is a mistake. There is still a difference between a Live Dealer player and an RNG one. I believe that operators should be looking to offer players an enhanced experience in both areas. Failure to do this will ultimately see the players leaving to find the superior products that they desire on other sites.

What are your thoughts on the widespread view that table games do not need the investment, and should be given away cheaply because they are a commodity?

"It may be a widespread view, but you only need to put good quality versions of Roulette and Blackjack next to lower quality ones to see which game players prefer and which generates the most revenue each month. Players who spend more time playing these games  do not want a poor playing experience such as the ball bouncing erratically around like a pinball machine, or single-hand Blackjack because the supplier has not worked out how to create a multi-hand experience on a mobile device. Players want a good quality user experience that makes their time playing a fun one. Table games may have been a commodity once, but because of the technology now available and the demand for better quality from the players, operators can now drive acquisition, retention, and revenues through high quality games. If the operator is required to enter into a higher revenue share deal to secure such high-quality games, then this should not be seen as a negative but more as an investment into the bigger profits that lie ahead that these high-quality games continue to deliver."

So, what are Realistic Games doing to buck the trend and bring innovation to the table?

"We’ve just launched Realistic Roulette, which is a premium 3D product allowing players to get even closer to the action. It was created using live ball spins and recreates the land-based experience for players on mobile, tablet and desktop, whilst providing unrivalled clarity and the fast pace that RNG table games can offer. Like our recent 3D slot, Black Ice, it allows players to change the view of the game to suit themselves.  We believe it will appeal to those players who enjoy the bricks and mortar experience of a real casino or that of the Live Dealer product, but also the next generation of players who have come to expect an immersive experience and cinematic animation through their love of video gaming. It is all things to all players and I would urge operators who are not already looking to take the game to give it a go. I think players are going to love it and it will revitalise a sector of online gaming that has been neglected for far too long."

Talk us through the technology behind the game, the challenges you faced and what you hope it will achieve.

"The key technology behind the game is WebGL. This has been around for a number of years now but it’s only recently that we’ve been able to harness this technology in web browsers. It has started to be used in the development of slots, and we think we’re one of the first to use it in producing a table game. The technology has been used to varying degrees of success, but it’s only been through rigorous research, development, and testing, that we’ve been able to eradicate the gremlins that have plagued other developers. We’ve put a serious amount of time and effort into the creation of this game and are very proud to now release it. Ultimately, we hope it excites existing players, as well as encouraging new players, who may have overlooked table games previously. Both of those will lead to better returns for our operating partners and ourselves, and that’s what all of this is about."
