For every exhibitor that was happy with GTI Taiwan 2011, there were two or three that weren't.
The reason given for the discontent was a perceived drop in the number of visitors, particularly those from overseas. The cause was considered to be twofold: the date clash with the ELA exhibition in Mexico City limiting visitors from the Americas and the growing importance of the two trade shows in mainland China.
It seems there are now two camps among the Taiwanese manufacturers of games and gaming machines - those who proudly boast that all their manufacturing is done on home soil and those who have opened additional manufacturing plants on the mainland.
There is no doubt that there has been a major shift in the manufacturing power base and this has had an adverse effect on the Taipei exhibition, reducing exhibitors and visitors and diluting international visitors, but they were invariably those intrepid souls who go just about everywhere.
Having said that, there were a significant number of exhibitors who were happy with the business they had done and thought the quality of the visitors was up to scratch. It is certainly a well put together show and the organisers appear to do a very good job.
