A small but sociable event, AmEx reflected the poor current state of the market in Ireland, but at the same time managed to produce some positive signs that things may start to improve in the near future.
Taking place at the beginning of March, the exhibition is notable for the way in which its participants gradually fill the hotel bar towards the end of the afternoon. As a social occasion, as well as a focal point for the Irish industry, it is ideal.
The gaming industry in Ireland seems to be faring better than the amusement industry, although in the latter redemption is proving to be the best performer. The increasing sophistication of the industry in Ireland was also evident at AmEx through the presence of companies offering high-tech management systems and the like.
With all the economic problems the government have got to sort out, introducing a new gaming act will be low on their list of priorities.—Jim McCann
Last year was a disaster, but I think we are now experiencing a bit of a bounce.—Seoirse McCann, Kimble
Redemption is bigger here than it is in the UK. The tendanct is for Irish operators to designate specific areas of their arcades as redemption areas and that is the correct way of going about it.—Micky Kennedy, Harry Levy Amusements
