There’s just something so right about Sega and arcade racing. Dan Snook reckons it could be down to Out Run’s DNA.

I’M going to have to rein the superlatives and the drama in on this one. Why, you may ask? Because it’s Out Run, that’s why. Anyone who clapped their saucer-wide, youthful eyes on this beautiful machine for the first time in 1986 will understand – for everyone else, you may be advised to take an anti-sickness tablet. As much as I obsessed about arcade gaming back in the day, I can scarcely remember any one game evoking such a range of emotion as the deluxe version (the first one I ever played, and by far and away the best) of Sega’s racing classic.
