US trade association IAAPA’s annual FEC benchmark report has been released offering insight into the industry on the back of 2016 data.

Drilling down into details including admissions, attractions information, guest demographics and pricing, it also reveals a diverse marketplace and the model split of operations. Data shows that 42 per cent are pay-as-you-go FECs, 41 per cent a mix of pay-as-you-go and ticketed attractions with the remainder pay-one-price. 

Further findings are that only 45 per cent of respondents are single FECs, showing that many are a part of a larger parent company. Answers also show that the average number of sites owned per business is 4.5.

Pricing information revealed that the average cost for individual activities was between $5 and $8. The lowest average cost activity was a bumper boat ride at $5.81; the highest single activity cost came in at $7.64 for an hour on a ropes course. The two most common activities, according to the report, were a single game of laser tag, which averaged $7.36, and a game of mini-golf, slightly cheaper, at $6.63.

In terms of most lucrative activities, arcade games came out on top, with laser tag, outdoor mini golf and go-karts also proving popular. The highest earner in terms of event held on site were birthday parties.
