One of the UK’s leading suppliers of specialist games room equipment, Home Leisure Direct, has launched a contactless payment pool dining table – a world first.

The Signature Vantage Contactless Pool Dining Table is a 7ft table that allows for both pool and dining, enabling venue operators to choose between the two. The table is the first of its kind in the world to allow users the ability to play pool and use contactless payment to cover the cost.

Andy Beresford, managing director of Home Leisure Direct, said: “This is a table we’ve developed especially for the commercial market, having spotted an obvious gap that needed filling. How many times have you been in the position of scrabbling around for the right change for a game of pool? Given the fact that more and more of us are turning away from cash altogether, it made perfect sense to develop a table that allowed for the use of contactless cards.”

He continued: “It allows the user to play as many games of pool as they like without having to head to the bar to organise change or cashback.”

The table has taken two years to develop and has patent pending and European Design Registration to ensure that the concept cannot be replicated elsewhere.

For the pool aficionados, its standout features include a hingeless frame and one-piece cushion rail to ensure consistent bounce, computer controlled slate levelling and the choice of 23 Hanisworth Smart Cloth colours, or a range of Strachan cloths if preferred.

The Vantage is equipped with a contactless payment reader, which allows for debit and credit cards, as well as mobile phone payment systems such as Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay. It also uses a secure mobile connection to process all transactions, while the system is powered via a high quality rechargeable battery, which can be connected to the mains whilst the premises are closed to recharge, allowing for up to two days in-between charges.

Home Leisure Direct handles all of the processing fees, the mobile connection costs, security requirements and maintenance – paying the takings by BACS, minus a small fee to cover these associated costs.
