Virtual trade convention ShowUp, scheduled for the end of this month, has been moved to February 1-3.

The organiser, Bob Cooney, said that more time was needed “to get the message out” to possible visitors. He also announced a new method of paying for attending: “Pay what you can”.

Cooney told the US publication RePlay: “There is a glut of virtual events in the industry… six over a seven-week period. We felt it was better for everyone, attendees, exhibitors and sponsors, to move into the first quarter of 2021.”

The pricing system for attending the show is suggested as anything between $10 and $49.

Said Cooney: “Times are tough, but visitors will want to contribute something. We want everyone to attend ShowUp. We don’t want money to be the reason someone doesn’t participate. That being said, putting on a big virtual event costs money and we want those that can and want to support it to do so.”

He also announced a new social event in November, The Social Crawl. It will be held during the same week that the industry usually gathers in Orlando for the IAAPA trade show and visits a string of industry receptions.

The free-to-attend crawl is an attempt to mirror the Florida-week’s receptions that always spill over into smaller, intimate gatherings: “We wanted to recreate that feeling virtually.”

The crawl will take place on November 17 from 77pm to 11pm, Eastern time.
