There was enormous relief on day two of the Spring ENADA show in Rimini, Italy, at the sight of people actually entering the venue.

The first day was classed as "dead" by one exhibitor and indeed foot traffic through the door was severely depleted in comparison with recent years. The show itself was also smaller than 2011, taking up much less space in the Rimini Fiera as several previous exhibitors stayed away.

Questions were being asked about the validity of two four-day shows in Italy in view of the current state of the nation's economy. The event also took place against a backdrop of news stories suggesting that the €8bn in taxes that the Italian state draws from gambling was being dwarfed by the amount that the Mafia was earning from the industry. One thing's for sure - Italy is never boring…
