Taking the state government to court has paid off for amusement machine operators in Ohio.

Amusement machines

The Ohio Coin Machine Association had lodged legal proceedings against the governor for banning the use of amusement machines while permitting the reopening of state-owned lottery machines.

The result has been a new regulation that states: “The open congregate areas in restaurants, bars, banquet and catering facilities (billiards, card playing pinball games, video games, arcade games, dancing, entertainment) are permitted to open but businesses must follow all social distancing guidelines as well as sanitation guidelines."

The outcome is heralded in Replay, the US industry publication, with a comment from Andy Shaffer of Shaffer Entertainment: “Thanks to the Herculean efforts of the OCMA, I am very proud to announce that bars and taverns, bowling centres and FECs can turn our games back on.”
