Visitors to Southend Pier in the UK in 2023-24 fell from 412,300 to 375,000.

However, the same period showed an additional £190,000 in admission fees after a 25p rise.
With some prudent cost-cutting measures, the pier showed an increased profit of £300,000. Against that, a total of £1.6m was invested in the structure, mainly on preliminary repair work.
The council has gone on record as denying that the reduced admission was down to the increase in the admission charges.
