Universal Studios senior vice-president John McReynolds has been in Bedford to talk to locals about the prospects that could open up if the company was to go ahead with its plan to build a major theme park just outside of the UK town.
Universal has bought up a 476-acre site of a former brickworks at Kempston Hardwick and is in the course of evaluating the proposal and talking with government officials about the financial breaks that may be available if it should go through with the plan.
McReynolds, who handles governmental, regulatory, legislative and land development for Universal, toured Bedford accompanied by mayor Tom Wootton, talking to local business people.
McReynolds told the press that the establishment of a theme park on the site would unlock enormous economic potential for Bedford. The scheme has received considerable support from the local community and local government.
