The Association of Play Industries (API), has announced that it is joining over 150 other organisations calling upon the UK Government to put children at the centre of the nation’s recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Lockdown has been a brutal experience for many, impacting their physical health and mental well-being, their needs ignored, the fallout seemingly viewed as inevitable collateral damage,” the organisation stated.

The API points out that obesity in UK children has rocketed during lockdown and it is demanding that play, notably outdoor lay, has been forgotten. It wants playgrounds and other play areas to be reopened as a matter of urgency and invest in public outdoor play provision as part of its recovery plans.
