UK pubs seek Budget relief

In the run-up to a Budget statement by the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer detailing taxation proposals for the next year, the British pubs industry is building up pressure for relief.

It revealed today that 39 pubs a week are now closing in the UK. The industry faces possible increases in taxation on alcohol at a time when supermarkets are permitted to undercut pubs considerably on prices.
