Gross income at cinemas in the UK was down 75 per cent in 2020 as a result of the Covid-19 lockdown.

The British Film Institute has revealed that UK cinema attendances fell from 177 million in 2019 to 44 million last year.

The institute does, however, note that a significant recovery for film and television production took place in the UK with a resumption in activity worth £1.19bn, the second highest quarterly result on record.
