How to reopen laser tag following the coronavirus pandemic is discussed by operators in US magazine Replay, concentrating on the unique health and safety aspects that may apply.

Laser

The obvious ones – cleaning practices and customer interaction – must be observed, the article concluded. For cleaning equipment and sanitising it, a 80-90 per cent isopropanol solution is the most effective. The Polycarbonate components within laser tag equipment may show some discoloration and the structural integrity may be compromised as a result. But equally, the operators do not recommend chlorine, UV or H202 based sanitisers, as these will result in excessive or rapid corrosion of components.

The location itself needs cleaning with detergent or plain soap and water prior to disinfection. That should be carried out using diluted household bleach solutions, alcohol solutions with at least 70 per cent alcohol and most common EPA-registered household disinfectants. Diluted household bleach solutions can be used if appropriate for the surface, following manufacturers’ instructions for application.

The operators also recommend placing hand sanitisers throughout the facility with disposable materials for hand drying and staff should wear disposable gloves and aprons when needed for cleaning purposes. Frequent hand washing and perhaps the application of an alcohol-based hand sanitising fluid is recommended.
