EUROPE bucks the trends – it always does. Family entertainment centres with diverse contents to appeal to the widest possible audience, are doing well - in North America, the Middle East, Latin America, Australasia and the Far East - but Europe has always lagged behind in this sector.

There are a few enlightened individuals who have latched on to this genre of coin-op and who have done quite well from it, but a generalisation across Europe’s operators is that they are obsessed with their AWPs. OK, France doesn’t have AWPs, so why aren’t FECs flourishing there? Not sure of the answer to that, except perhaps the perverse nature of the Gallic character turns its face to alternatives and continues to demand – so far unheard – equality with its neighbours.
