A nine-year-old boy in the US has taken his love of arcade games to the next level and raised $62,000 worth of donations in the process.

Arcade Arcade

Like many nine-year-old boys, Caine Monroy decided to put his imagination to good use and get creative. This creativity resulted in the construction of his very own amusement arcade in the front of his father’s car parts shop in Los Angeles.

Having started out with just one coin-op amusement style game, the arcade now includes a number of different arcade inspired games, including a crane inspired game, which is made from string and a hook. The arcade also features a speaker made from an iPod headphone, tokens, tickets and his very own business card. There are also numerous prizes available that include Hot Wheels cars he no longer plays with. Customers can pay $1 for four games or $2 for a ‘fun pass’ for 500 plays.

The project shot to fame after filmmaker Nirvan Mullick stopped off at the shop to buy a door handle for his car and shot a short documentary about the arcade and later organised a flashmob to surprise Caine, both of which have raised donations to the nine-year-old’s university fund, which has a target of $100,000.
