Pleasure Beach Blackpool, in the UK, has announced the launch of Nickelodeon Land at the theme park.

Representing an investment of £10.3m, the new attraction is set to open in April 2011 and will see a six-acre area of Pleasure Beach transformed into Nickelodeon Land, which will feature 14 rides (nine brand new and five extensively re-themed rides), themed retail and catering outlets.

New rides include SpongeBob’s Splash Bash, an interactive ride where riders have the opportunity to turn the jets onto their friends and blast jellyfish with jets of water. Avatar Airbender allows riders to join Aang on an adventure, spinning and soaring through the air on a giant disc. Then there is the Rugrats’ Lost River flume ride.

Gerald Raines, senior director Nickelodeon Theme Parks and Attractions, commented: "Pleasure Beach Blackpool is a first-class amusement park and popular destination for families in the UK. This is an ideal location for Nickelodeon and a great opportunity to expand our global presence."

Work on Nickelodeon Land will commence in the autumn this year.
