The Sparkles and Starlite FECs in Georgia, US, have switched to Intercard for an improved cashless experience.

Both centres are owned and operated by members of the Couey family, with Jeff and Ava Couey known in the skating world as "Mr and Mrs Sparkles" and their sons – Michael and Clint – operating three skating FECs of their own.

Jeff and Ava are life-long skaters who helped modernise their skating FECs by adding kids’ playgrounds, two-storey laser tag and bigger arcades to two of their rinks.

Initially embraced by "Mr Sparkles," the cashless technology allows customers to purchase gift cards and party packages. The switch to Intercard was made to improve overall experience.

Jeff Couey said: “We switched to Intercard because our previous vendor changed their card readers and we would have had to buy a whole new system as a result. We didn't like being forced into that situation.

“Also, the [old] system would go offline or something would happen and it wouldn't function. We heard from other people that Intercard support is much better.”

The Couey family plan to eventually go cashless across all of their attractions, including F&B operations.
