A major acquisition has taken place in the theme park and FEC rides business, with the purchase of RoboCoaster by Simworx.

The two companies have worked together over the past two years under a “teaming agreement” leading to the full acquisition.

Simworx specialises in media-based attractions including 4D effects cinemas, the Stargazer and Cobra dynamic motion simulator rides, and has also collaborated with the Netherlands-based Mondial on the 360-degree Flying Theatre.

Simworx developed the Angry Birds 4D cinema at Thorpe Park in the UK for Merlin Entertainments and provided the new Shrek’s Adventure in London, which opened this month.

RoboCoaster specialises in developing intellectual property for use in passenger-carrying robotic technology and trackless dark rides. The two businesses will now concentrate on the development and manufacture of a new ride technologies and robot-based show solutions.
