The 2015 Asian Attractions Expo, held last week at the Hong Kong Convention Centre, was fine in every way apart from one thing – a lack of footfall.
Visitor levels on day one were acceptable but on days two and three there were many open spaces in the aisles. The reaction to this from exhibitors was mixed – some bemoaned the light attendance while others were happy with the quality, if not the quantity, of visitors.
Everyone was content with the venue, the general consensus being that Hong Kong is a great place to be and the convention centre is fully fit for purpose. Next year the event goes back to mainland China (last year’s show took place in Beijing), with Shanghai as the host city.
The organisation was also spot on, which came as no surprise given the pedigree of IAAPA, the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions. And it was a big show, covering two halls of the venue, one larger than the other. The standard of presentation was high, the exhibitor list providing a mixture of amusement machine and big ride manufacturers.
