The Caribbean Journal reports that the site, which has been developed by entertainment group Falcon's Beyond and Melia Hotels, will be the "first true theme park" in the Caribbean.

Melia Hotels are behind the first Katmandu park in Mallorca, Spain. The multi-phase resort also includes a new hotel from Malia with its own water park, which opened earlier this month.

The theme park aspect of Punta Cana's new Falcon's Resort will feature "mega park level attractions" with state-of-the-art ride technology, as well as two immersive 18-hole mini-golf courses.

An official statement on the theme park reads: "Here, explorers of all ages chart their own unique course for adventure in incredible attractions, delectable dining, and first-rate retail experiences."

The new Falcon's Resort will be completed in 2023.
