On the eve of a report by InterGame on the prize business in amusement machines, a leading international expert in redemption games has issued the view that prizes in one form or another now account for up to 90 per cent of machine income in amusement centres and FECs globally.

Adrian Drewitz of Bay Tek

Adrian Drewitz, who has taken Bay Tek redemption games across the world, said: “These machines represent more work for operators in terms of stocking and maintaining them, but similarly represent an expansion in their locations’ offer.

“Where I see strong operators with a knowledgeable staff you will see a profitable location that customers will want to return to time and time again.”

Drewitz said that the success of prize games, especially ticket redemption, lay in the psychological satisfaction element in winning. His company’s Prize Hub was designed to take the genre into new locations, such as cinemas, bowling centres or retail where traditionally there was a space problem with having a prize counter that had to be staffed.

“Customers can easily see what they can win and have good choices adding to the excitement of playing the game itself.”

The InterGame report on prizes in amusements is published in the August issue.
